Digital Scholar is dedicated to launching, supporting, and sustaining critical open-source infrastructure for the digital humanities through responsible stewardship and ethical business practices. In doing so, DS is devoted to defending the right of the public to obtain, develop, and distribute free and open source software, and to supporting FOSS projects as they pursue sustainability.

Organizational History

Zotero was initially launched in 2006 from the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University. In 2009 the nonprofit corporation Digital Scholar was founded to operate Zotero's business model and to continue developing Zotero's platforms and services independently. Digital Scholar is a non-stock corporation that follows 501c3 guidelines in its operations.
